yeah, I bailed on bloglines a while back, they weren't updating things that I wanted to see.

then apparently I found out that they hadn't been updating any LJ content for years.

It's amazing when you switch RSS readers and find out what you thought were dead feeds are actually alive.

Bloglines keels over the end of the month, so I'm trying out FeedDemon (a bit of a bitch when I started out with over 1200 feeds...) Can't stand Google Reader (although to be fair, I've learned a bit using it for feeds that Bloglines stopped updating some time ago (or was being blocked, i.e. Craigslist.)

So I might actually start participating again. :/

I'd been out of the ST book scene for several years until I started reading them again on my Kindle. Most of them are older ones I've had to convert from Microsoft Reader format but they convert well.

I noticed that the first edition hardcover of New Frontier: Stone and Anvil came with a CD of the first 16 books/stories in ebook form. I was excited as I didn't have most of these and I was actually able to find a copy that supposedly has the original bonus disc with it.

Does anyone out there have this? If so, what can you tell me about it? I'd assumed that the ebooks were in Microsoft Reader lit format, one of the most popular of the time. Since first reading of this bonus though, I've read that these may not be proper ebooks in the normal sense and may just be pdf files, with or without covers, etc. Can anyone confirm the format of these ebooks?

Also, is anyone aware of Pocket Books doing anything like this before or since?

Thanks in advance to anyone that might be able to help me.

Sincerely,

Hi Again,

I always get the idea the the Star Trek franchise owners are lost. The old numbered book series at leats stayed with a theme for a few books but now, we are all over the places.Since the reboot, even some of the authors are "onhold" until they get the okay to move the story forward.

In my opinion they need to sit down and come up with a 5 year plan. With books that fill in some of the unknowns on the movie while we are waiting for the next one.

I liked Enterprise and have read The Good That Men Do, Kobiyashi Maru, and the Romulan war. The Good that men Do = was great, Kobiayshi = not as good and the romulan war was OK. I think I may do a reread on these due to having read several books in between the releases.

It should definitely be illegal. I can't fault them for it though, my library is terribly underfunded. :(
I did some research, and shipping a book would cost about $2.70. Does this seem reasonable? It seems reasonable to me, but I'm not very objective.

I like that idea of only having insurance on the less easily replaceable books. I'll look into that.
The thing is, I live in a small town. My library only had four Star Trek related books (including Shatner's biography, which I didn't care too much for) I'm sure there are others who would like to read books, but their library doesn't carry them, or they've already read them, etc.
By the way? That booksfree website looks amazing... I'm madly jealous. :)

sadly no, I used to subscribe to books free : http://www.booksfree.com/ and the condition of the books was perfectly readable, but I doubt that they made all too many trips from the warehouse.

I think it would be best to offer the easily replaceable books for a normal fee and then like you said, add on an insurance fee fro the not so replaceable ones.

I dunno. My local library carries pretty much all of the books I would want to read ;)

Well, the only thing anyone will have to pay for is shipping, which I'm still trying to understand. There would also be an insurance charge which would be refunded upon retrieval of the book, so people would be disinclined to steal them. I was worried the cost would be too high as well, but I'm not quite sure how to deal with the problem.
I suppose you're right about general wear and tear. I think a lot of people would treat the books more kindly, though, because they know they belong to someone else. Maybe?

The problem as I see it is the cost of sending them back and forth, wear and tear, and the problem of losing them, one way or another.

If I still had my mother's collection along with my current and past collections, I would be able to stock a small library.

Hi, my name's Adenil. I'm a huge Star Trek fan and over the years I have accumulated more than 150 books. The other day I was thinking it would be great to share all those books with people, and so I had the idea to do an on line lending library. I was wondering if any of you think there would be interest in something like that, and any suggestions you might have.
Thanks in advance.

oh man, webrings. I totally forgot about those until I started looking at these sites, lol.

oh how the years have changed the internet landscape.

I dunno.

I remember being part of the Space:Above and Beyond webring, and actually getting a couple of the actors emails, but they had no real website, even for the show itself. Earth:Final Conflict did, but then shortly there after went into it's last season abortion (that I couldn't follow, not even for two shows).

It's amazing that there are so many star trek actors with either placeholder websites or 'made by fans' websites. William Shatner would have been one that I would expect to be professionally done, but it looks like he did it himself over a lunch break, lol.

And why doesn't Leonard Nimoy have a real bio site?
