I saw some IDW books recently, but I'm not sure if they're the current publisher...cause really, wtf is a tiny company like IDW doing publishing Star Trek books anyways

IDW is the publisher, and IDW has done some great stuff. They're also doing a Terminator Salvation book, they've been doing Transformers for awhile (and its getting better, some of the early stuff was meh). They've got GI Joe. I believe they also have Dr. Who, Angel, and a few others.

The reason they've got it is simple. They don't really do any regular comic books. They don't have traditional super hero books, because damnit they're over done. One more guy in spandex is boring as hell. I don't know if this is actually the reason, but its the one I like.

I guess my real question would be: how did IDW get started if all they do is movie properties? Is it a publishing wing of one of the movie studios?
