So they've released the TOS episodes on BluRay. Is it worth it? Will you buy them?

/me checks for evidence of a HighDef TV and oops! That's a show stopper right there. Let alone a BluRay player.

Now, I have plans on getting an HD TV. Maybe this year.

That's a bit bigger than my TV room could comfortably hold, and a little more than I'm planning on spending. But not much.

I'm interested in a 40 something inch 1080P with 4 HDMI ports (Cable box, BlueRay or PS3, Xbox360 and spare), 120hz, with a decent contrast. For about $1k. Which is about what my wife spent for my Christmas 8 1/2 years ago with a 34" Sony Flat CRT. On sale. We weren't even married at the time (but I had proposed, and she accepted...)

But she finally decided what she wants to do with the bathroom that needs fixed/remodeled (the fiberglass showertub has cracked, multiple places), so I've got to get that started first. Then I can get the TV and order the upgrade of the cable. The Xbox 360 already exists, so the next thing will be a 5.1 or 7.1 stereo system to go with it.

Then it's a matter of which child gets the old TV. The MP in Savannah wants his it for his apartment. The college student at home wants it for his room. It's too big to put in my bedroom, and it weighs a ton anyways, too hard to move around.

I got season one a couple of days ago and it is awesome. There are over twenty hours of show plus countless bonus features. And the digital remastering and redone special effects don't detract anything from the acting. You also, for the purists out there, have the ability to watch episodes without the special effects which is pretty cool. I recommend them to anyone out there that has Bluray and is even just a moderate Trekkie. The only downside is obvious though, since it was filmed for TV it is not widescreen. I knew it wouldn't be but it still looks fucking awesome on my 42 inch 1080p Samsung TV.

That's nice, getting both versions. I saw the remastered episode that they showed at the theaters, and thought it was great.

Gotta kick that bathroom some more then.

OK, Tiki, how long does it take to get the signature to show up? Or does it show up once and that's it?

    OK. Makes sense.

Definitely need to kick that bathroom next week. I saw Newegg had a 47" LCD for $999, free shipping, 4 HDMI, mixed reviews though. :/ Mostly bitching about the speakers, which would be fixed by a real sound system. That's in the plans, but not initially.

ugh, I just realized/already knew that I don't own a bluray player. I bought an HD-DVD one for my 360 back when it was still retail, spent about $150 on the player, and I really can't justify paying $300 for a bluray player that can't play all the hd-dvds that I own now :(

maybe in a year or so when bluray players are under $100.

I think you can trade in some of your HD-DVD disks for BluRay.

And keep an eye out, BluRay's can be had for under $200.

I'll probably be getting a PS3 just to keep my kiddies happy.

meh. it's hard for me to pay $200 for a brand new player for something that I paid only $100 for about 2 years ago. My hd-dvd players was only $100 and it came with a movie too :)

plus 5 more mail in free ones. what does bluray have to offer like that?
